It's cold-blooded murder, says DCP

Basing on an interrogation of the accused for a few hours and the circumstantial evidence in the Ushashree murder case, the Commissionerate Police on Sunday confirmed that it was a well-planned murder.

Accused former Army medical officer Dr Somanath Parida, who had chopped up his wife into 280 pieces and reserved the flesh in 22 steel containers, had brutally killed his wife and later sliced her to conceal the evidence.

“It’s cold-blooded murder,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Nitinjit Singh, adding, “We have enough evidence to establish that the victim was murdered.” He said that the accused had attempted to destroy all the evidence of murder. To throw the body parts outside easily, Parida had chopped the body into pieces so that he can store them in steel containers, he added. The investigating officer in the case said that Parida had fitted an air condition facility in his car by spending Rs 45,000 which might have been used for the disposal of body pieces of his wife.

“We would take the accused of the high profile case on remand for further investigation. If needed, we may conduct a lie detector test to know the actual reason of the murder case,” said police.

Though the actual reason could not be traced as yet, the police officials suspected that it happened due to spontaneous anger or a family dispute. The accused on Saturday confessed that her wife had committed suicide by crushing her head against a wall.
