Iti murder case: SC notice to State Govt, CBI

Published on:

The SC on Monday issued a notice to State Government and the CBI, while adjudicating over a PIl seeking a CBI probe into the murder of Tikiri UP School teacher Itishree Pradhan, who was burnt to death earlier this month.

Hearing the PIl filed by one Sudeepta lenka, an Odia law student from Bangalore, the apex court asked the State and CBI to submit a reply within three weeks. The SC Bench headed by Chief Justice P Sathasivam asked why the State Government was not allowing CBI to enquire into the murder. lawyers Suresh Tripathy and Sanjeev Panigrahi were the counsels of the petitioner.

Meanwhile, the two member team of the National Commission for Women (NCW) which has probed the death case also hinted that it would recommend for a CBI enquiry into the matter. In its observation, the panel stated that since many high-profile powerful political people looked involved in the murder case.

It is corroborated by the victim herself in her dying note, it is a fitting case for a CBI probe. Notably, Itishree, a Shiksa Sahayak, was set on fire by an unidentified person, while she was sleeping in her room in the school hostel on October 27 last. She succumbed to her injuries on November 1 after battling for life for a few days at a private hospital in Visakhapatnam.
