Even as the allegation of a fake placement racket in the ITER under the SOA University is rocking the State, the Commissionerate police achieved a significant breakthrough on Friday by nabbing a consultant who had allegedly acted as a facilitator in the racket.
Sources said the accused consultant Manas Nayak had reportedly played a major role in acting as a mediator between the ITER management and various dubious consultancy firms.
Police said Nayak was arrested from Puri and is now being interrogated in connection with the fake job offer row. He is a resident of Salepur in Cuttack district and an MPharma student. The police would take him on remand to unearth more facts.
Earlier, Commissioner of Police YB Khurania had revealed that a big placement racket was behind the scam, and at least 25 persons have been identified so far in the matter. The Commissionerate police had also earlier arrested ITER Additional Placement Dean Raj Kumar Hota on May 26 following allegations that several students of the ITER had fallen victims to the fake placements conducted with his connivance.
