The name of the Information Technology Department would be changed to ‘Electronics and IT Department’ in view of rapid growth in e-governance and electronics system, design and manufacturing sectors.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik issued a direction in this regard while reviewing performance of the IT Department at the State Secretariat here on Saturday. Patnaik directed to place a proposal in this regard in the coming States Cabinet meeting for approval.
It was decided that another
IIIT and an Electronics and ITC Academy would be set up in the State on PPP mode.
Besides, a decision was taken to make the capital city of Bhubaneswar and other big cities fully Wi-Fi-enabled within a year’s time.
The meeting also decided to connect Broadband internet service system to all the gram panchayats with Bhubaneswar by 2017-18.
The Chief Minister also directed to expedite construction work of the proposed Electronic Manufacturing Cluster here.
Among others, IT Minister Pranab Prakash Das and Chief Secretary GC Pati were present.
