At a time when opposition parties are raising a major issue in the Assembly over the `8 crore chit fund money deposited in the ruling BJD’s bank account, Income Tax officials on Wednesday visited the State Bank of India evening branch at Kalpana Square here, where the party has its account, and sought transactions details.
Meanwhile, sources said the IT officials could seize the account if suspicious transactions are traced during verification of details.
Meanwhile, the bank authorities said that they have received a letter from the IT Department seeking transaction details of the account since its beginning.
The IT Department, in its letter, has asked the bank to provide all necessary information, including the deposits and transfers made to and from that account. An IT Inspector delivered the letter to the bank manager.
Notably, on Tuesday, leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra had asked Chief Minister and BJD president to clarify whether the SBI bank account number 10091755246 belongs to the Biju Janata Dal.
He had alleged that a hefty amount of `8 crore was found to have been deposited in this account on a single day.
