Iswar Chandra Behera, the arrested contractual photographer of the Chandipur Integrated Test Range (ITR), was brought here on Saturday by a team of the State Crime Branch for custodial interrogation. The Baleswar Police had arrested Behera last week on espionage charge as he is suspected to have links with Pakistan’s notorious intelligence service ISI.
Sources said Behera would be interrogated by a special team of the Crime Branch to ascertain the sources of money that were credited to his bank accounts from various parts, including Pakistan. The team would also try to find out the callers who had been trying to establish contact with Behera over phone calling from a nine-digit number.
A top cop also indicated that if investigation need arises, help and cooperation of the Interpol would be sought. Behera used to send videos and photographs to his contacts suspected to be ISI agents. According to reports reaching here, Behera was produced in a lower court of Baleswar on Saturday where Crime Branch police sought to take him on remand for further investigation at its headquarters in Cuttack. He is likely to be grilled by the cops till Tuesday before being produced in the Baleswar court on Wednesday.
