Former MP Dr Rama Chandra Khuntia, while addressing the opening ceremony of the Building and Wood Workers International, asked whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi has the courage to say that he is with 50 crore labourers of the country as he said he is with industrialists and investors.
Dr Khuntia also asked if the NDA Government is really sincere for women rights and what prevents the Government to pass the Act in Parliament for 30 per cent reservation in lok Sabha, Bidhan Sabha and Rajya Sabha seatsij
Dr Khuntia said that women are the most backward community in the country. In spite of the Dowry Prevention Act, the Sexual Harassment at Workplace Act 2013, the Right to Education Act and the Beti Bachhao Programme, women are subjected to harassment, torture and death.
Dr Khuntia said that the Government should set up a commission to study women’s contribution to the national income.
Women are 50 per cent of the population. Hence there should be 50 per cent reservation for women in employment, promotion and also skill training, he said. Industrial houses and investors have no contribution for the skill training or skill upgradation till today. The Government should take a decision to ask the investors and industrialists to give 5 per cent of their income for skill training and skill upgradation as huge amount is required to upgrade the skill of 50 crore unskilled workers of the country, Dr Khuntia demanded.
