Is an Olympian not a VIP, asks Dutee

Odisha-born India’s fastest woman athlete Dutee Chand is upset over being denied to use the VIP parking area near the Jagannath Temple in Puri.

She has narrated her unpleasant experience on social media platform questioning the parameters of VIP status.

“Every time I visit the Jagannath Temple, police ask for VIP pass when I go for parking my vehicle in the earmarked area. Is someone who has represented India in the Olympics not a VIPIJ What shall I do to become a VIPIJ Kindly suggest,” Dutee has asked on Facebook.

During her last trip to the shrine on April 12, Dutee was denied to keep her car in the VIP parking lot, she has said in the post written in Odia.

While sympathy has poured in for the speedster, a handful was not in agreement with the majority.

“Dutee madam, of course you are a VIP. But rules are rules. Neither you nor the constables who work are wrong. Therefore, for your convenience it would be better you write a letter to the Sport Ministry and the concerned Collector to obtain a pass,” an Orissa High Court lawyer, Deepak Panda said.
