Irrelevant non-engg ITI courses to be abolished

Published on:

The State Government is reportedly considering abolition of some of the non-engineering courses or trades from the curriculum of the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) as these courses are now no more popular with students since they do not fetch jobs in the market easily.

The Employment and Technical Education and Training (ET&T) Department has asked the Director of Technical Education and Training to furnish information institution-wise and trade-wise admission and placement status over the last three years and also suggest which trades or subjects are to be abolished, said an official source.

The department has also sought institution-wise specific plans for utilisation of shop floor of the trades to

be abolished.

Since many employees would be jobless due to the abolition of the old courses, the department has asked all ITIs to prepare a list of such employees and also specific proposals for their re-deployment, said the source.
