The Loka Shakti Abhiyan, Ganjam district on Tuesday alleged that massive irregularities have been committed in the construction of roads and canals in the Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) area recently.

Addressing a Press meet, Abhiyan district president Madhusudan Sethi said a six-member fact finding team, on the capacity of RTI Act, visited some project sites in the BeMC area and they were stunned to see that some works have not been done but showed as completed.

Sethi informed that the BeMC received Rs 46,22,08,800 for construction of roads, Rs 4,20,60,000 for buildings, Rs 2,82,46,649 for construction of boudarly walls and dividers and Rs 1.50 crore for sports activities during the last two years.

He said the team visited road projects at Laxminarayan Nagar and saw that the road and canal works at Lane IV, for which Rs 17 lakh was sanctioned, have not been constructed at all. Similarly, the road and canal works at Lane II, for which Rs 10 lakh was sanction, were being constructed in different direction of the approved site. Though the Sub-Collector has asked the BeMC and the BDA to look into the irregularity, no action has been taken yet.

“It has been clear that the irregularities have been committed under the nose of BMC Commissioner and the BDA Enforcement Officer,” Sethi alleged and demanded that stringent action be taken against the offenders soon.

The Abhiyan team would visit all projects sites in coming days and bring irregularities to the knowledge of public, said Sethi. Among others, Kishore Patra and Srikant Sethi were present.
