With the Crime Branch, probing the Astarang quadruple murder case, being unable to make any breakthrough even a week after the gruesome killing, hundreds of angry locals on Monday gheraoed the local police station and ransacked the tehsil office demanding a CBI probe into the crime immediately.
locals, including a large number of women, of Dinadiyan Nagar and nearby villages also shut down the Astarang market and blocked the road by burning tyres and squatting on the road.
They locked Government offices located inside the tehsil premises, including the block office. The mob also gheraoed the vehicle of the block Chairman.
"The Crime Branch is not investigating properly into the murder. All of them, including the local police have taken bribes. We do not have trust in them. They can't trace culprits. We demand a CBI probe to unearth the truth and also arrest the culprits," said a woman protestor.
They also met the tehsildar and submitted a memorandum to him and the police authorities demanding CBI inquiry into the ghastly murder of four members of the
family.
"We have pacified the agitation. We will intimate their demand to the higher authorities," said Puri Additional SP Jagannath Pradhan, urging the people not to take law into hands.
Notably, Dinabandhu Mallick, a retired District Inspector of Schools, and his wife and two daughters were found murdered with throat slit on September 21 night at his home in Dinadiyan Nagar village under Astarang police limits in Puri district.
A day after the incident, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik ordered the Crime Branch to investigate the case as the local did not allow the local police to take the bodies for postmortem.
Meanwhile, the Crime Branch has already questioned the nephew, brothers, daughter and son-in-law of the deceased retired DI.
