The local farmers here complained that water mixed with toxic oil from the IOCL Refinery has destroyed crops over 300 acres in Trilochanpur and adjoin areas.

The paddy plants were damaged under the influence of the chemicals and oil released by the refinery. Hundreds of farmers in Dhinkia andTrilochanpur are now left in the lurch as there is no way to drain out the toxic water and oil. They have meanwhile warned of launching a stir if the problem is not sorted out and compensation is not paid for the loss they have suffered. Farmers from Dhinkia, Trilochanpur and Badkanta villages complained that though they had handed over their land to the IOCL at throwaway prices with the hope of employment and other benefits for their children, but they are now left hopeless. “We are yet to be paid our dues against land acquirement by the IOCL. On the contrary, our remaining farmland, rivers, and groundwater are now under the control of the company. The company’s leakage oil is nowfloating around due to company management’s reckless attitude,” alleged many aggrieved farmers, who took out a rally in the village. They demanded a permanent arrangement for waste drainage to the sea by the IOCL.
