Investors' identification by June-end

Published on:

The  identification process of genuine investors who have been duped in the multi-crore chit fund scam in the State would be completed by the end of June, said Chief Secretary AP Padhi after a review meeting presided over by him at the State Secretariat here on Friday.

Padhi told reporters, “Three-member teams have been formed at the block levels to undertake field verification and identify the actual investors affected by the chit fund scam.”

Finance Secretary Tuhin Kant Pandey said, “A specially-designated court has directed the State Government to consider refund of money to around 3.93 lakh depositors of Rose Valley whereas the Justice MM Das Commission of Inquiry has identified 12,000 small depositors hit by the chit-fund scam.”

Pandey added, “The process for verification of depositors will be either videographed or captured on CCTV cameras. The three-member team comprising an ASI, Revenue Inspector and Panchayat Extension Officer will undertake the field verification which is mandated under the OPID Act.”

To discourage claimants from making false claims, the Government has set up a toll free number on which anyone can provide information on the refund process, Pandey added.

During the meeting, the Chief Secretary held videoconferencing with the District Collectors and SPs.
