An initiative to produce 100l eggs per day by 2020

In order to reach its target of producing 100 lakh eggs per day by 2020, the State Government has increased the upper cap of the Capital Investment Subsidy (CIS) from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 75 lakh.

Agriculture Department Secretary Rajesh Verma has recently issued a notification to this effect as per the Agriculture Police Resolution(APR)-2013, said a senior official of the Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department.

Agriculture Department is the nodal department for the APR-2013 implementation, the official inormed.

According to information, the State currently has an egg consuming population of two crore of the total population 4.2 crore. But the State produces only 34 lakh eggs per day against the demand of 64 lakh per day. To meet the deficit a total of 25 lakh eggs are being imported per day from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

Fisheries and Animal Resources Department has worked out a plan to enhance egg production by promoting commercial farming and backyard poultry, said the official.

The revised subsidy limit will be applicable for the new layer farms as well as for expansion of existing layer farms. Fiscal Incentive will be valid for a period of two years, 2014-15 and 2015-16.

The graduates in Agriculture and allied disciplines would also be given Capital Investment Subsidy for poultry farming. The department has also decided to promote establishment of maize processing units in the State to meet poultry feed demand, which is in short supply, said the official.
