The Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) youth wing has alleged that the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) cooperatives are indulging in large-scale corruption in connivance some corrupt RSP officers.
Newly-appointed working president of the INTUC youth wing Raj Kumar Yadav said here on Thursday that the workers’ cooperatives had been constituted in different departments of the RSP to extend financial support to a worker at the time of his need. But due to the corrupt practices, contribution to the cooperative society and the loan availed by a worker is deducted from his salary by the authorities, he said, adding, “The INTUC youth wing will fight against the corrupt practices to save the innocent workers from their financial loses.”
He further said that strengthening of the INTUC’s position in the 17 organisational districts of western Odisha, including Rourkela and Sundargarh, would be his priority. Enrolling construction workers has now become a business by certain trade unions and leaders, Yadav said, adding that he would focus on organising them and protect them from the “looters”. Besides, efforts would be made for employment of local youths in various industries and corporate houses, he added.
