The Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) has strongly opposed the Union Government’s reported move for disinvestment and privatisation of Central public sector undertakings (CPSUs), including Nalco.
The INTUC expressed resentments over the issue at its working committee meeting held at Mysore recently. INTUC vice president Dr RC Khuntia said the NDA Government has already taken Rs 4,600 crore from Nalco in 2017, including Rs 2,018 crore by buyback system and Rs 1,200 crore by 10 per cent disinvestments and 600 crore as dividend. The Nalco, which started with investment of Rs 4,000 crore, has already given Rs 7,200 crore as dividend to the Centre and Rs 21,000 crore as tax. He too alleged that the NDA Government has not given any support to the PSU since it came to power in 2014.
He said that the Centre now wants 10 per cent disinvestment and privatisation. The joint coordination committee of the Nalco trade union associations has strongly opposed it. On the occasion, the INTUC resolved to have a joint convention on August 8 at Delhi Talakara Stadiam. President Dr G Sanjeeva Reddy presided over the meeting.
A resolution proposing AICC VP Rahul Gandhi as president of the INTUC was passed unanimously on the occassion. The resolution proposed by Khuntia was supported by another VP M Ragabeya.
Besides Khuntia, Sandhya Mohapatra, Shyam Sundar Mohapatra, Soubhagya Pradhan, Ramesh Tripathy, SN Sahoo, Nirmal Samal, Satyabrata Nayak, Krushna Sahoo and Ajaya Paikray from Odisha participated in
the meeting.
