Intelligent traffic signals planned at 77 places

The Gurgaon-based Envoys Electronics Pvt ltd has been selected to undertake IT-enabled management of 58 traffic signals, 14 pelican crossings and blinkers at five locations in the capital city.

The company would spend Rs 14.7 crore for supply, installation and maintenance of the projects, which are scheduled to be commissioned in months.

With this, Bhubaneswar has taken its first step towards implementation of the Smart City Proposal with Bhubaneswar Smart City limited (BSCl) successfully completing the tender process for supply and installation of Adaptive Traffic Signal Control System with comprehensive maintenance for a period of seven years.

Power needed to run the traffic signals would be trapped through solar panels. The project would have latest technology in traffic engineering named Composite Signal Control Strategy (CoSiCoSt) developed by C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing).

The technology would improve travel time reliability by progressively moving vehicles through intersections, reduce congestion by creating smoother flow across intersections, faster response to traffic conditions and emergencies and predict traffic volumes and adjust signal timings to match these volumes.

The system would further be developed with more additions in the form of Red light Violation Detection, Automatic Number Plate Recognition System, Variable Message Signs, Surveillance Camera for real time emergency and incident management.

Pelican signals would come up at the BJB College, Ice Factory Road, VITS, Ashok Nagar Bus Stop, Master Canteen, Unit X Road,  RD College, Keshari Bus Stop, Press Club Road, Eest Coast Railway HQ, KIIT School, Satabdi Bus Stop and Steward School.

Similarly, blinkers would come up at ISKCON Temple Underpass, Hanspal Chowk, Info Valley Junction, Palasuni Chowk and Puri NH By-Pass.
