The Ravenshaw University Education Department Alumni Association (RUEDDA) has submitted a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor requesting him to take necessary steps to construct a pedestal for installing a life-size statue of Utkalmani Pandit Gopabandhu Das in front of the Education Department.
RUEDDA president Dr Yudhisthira Khatua said that as per a resolution in the 75th committee meeting of the association and verbal consent of the VC, a life-size statue of one of the most illustrious alumni of the then Ravenshaw College Utakalmani Gopabandhu is already built for installation.
It might be mentioned that a bronze bust of the Utkalmani is already installed at the entrance porch of the university’s Arts block.
But installation of a full-size statue of the chief architect of modern Odisha in his alma mater would undo a historic wrong in not installing a life-size statue of the great man in the Ravenshaw campus, Dr Khatua said.
