Injection needle removed from child’s genital area

A broken injection needle was removed from the perineum of a minor boy at the Madhapur Community Health Centre (CHC) in Athmallik block of Angul district on Thursday, a month after it got stuck in his body while a nurse was administering him an injection.

Swayamjit (3), son of Sitakanta Panda of Mohankhali village, had been taken to the CHC a month ago for treatment of fever. A nurse administered him the injection to his hip, during which the injection needle broke and remained in his body, alleged the boy’s father.

The child repeatedly complained of pain during the last one month. On Wednesday evening, his father again took him to the CHC, where the medical in-charge told them to visit the hospital on Thursday morning.

A team of doctors removed the needle, which had pierced the skin outwards, safely from the perineum of the child. He was shifted to the Angul District Headquarters Hospital for further treatment.
