Info on IAS, IPS officers' links shared with ED

Alok Jena, who had filed a petition in the Supreme Court praying for a CBI probe into the chit fund scam in Odisha, on Wednesday met Enforcement Directorate (ED) Director and Income Tax (I-T) chief and submitted documents and information relating to the involvement of senior Odisha IAS and IPS officers as well as ruling party politicians in the scam.

Jena along with RTI activist Jayant Kumar Das claimed that at least six IAS officers and seven IPS officers of the State not only helped the ponzi firms expand their business but were also the major beneficiaries of the illegal money circulation.

The duo also earlier had submitted some confidential documents to the Home Ministry and the Prime Minister's Office recently. They had mentioned in their letter to the Prime Minister that a senior IPS officer for vested interest sat over a March 2011 file forwarded by the Central Economic Intelligence Bureau of the Department of Revenue functioning under the Ministry of Finance seeking action against the Seashore Group. Without taking action against the chit fund firm, the police officer allowed the company to dupe gullible investors of the State.

Talking to this paper, Jena and Das alleged that some bigwigs in the State administration and people close to them were involved in the scam and that the CBI was now checking their call records to establish their links with the ponzi firm bosses.

They also alleged that the State Co-operative department played a dubious role and promoted the Artha Tatwa (AT) Group without the mandatory checks. They said one of the 'accused' IPS officers, who is on Central deputation now, is under the CBI scanner for huge accumulation of landed property in the Nayagarh district.

Das said some politicians, IAS and IPS officers, mediapersons and other influential persons are trying very hard in Delhi-level to slow down the investigation into the scam.

Meanwhile, Jena and Das met Sham Diwan, Amicus Curie appointed by the Supreme Court in the chit fund scam, to discuss the investigation process into the scam. Jena said that Diwan was contemplating to write an application to the Supreme Court praying it to monitor the CBI's investigation process into the chit fund scam.
