An elderly woman infected with Covid-19 set herself on fire at Jainabad under Nimapada NAC in Puri district on Thursday night. The deceased was identified as Shailabala (87).
Reportedly, Shailabala was in home isolation after testing positive for the virus a few days ago. Some locals alleged that relatives of the deceased were neglecting in providing food and treatment to the woman, following which she locked herself in the room and set herself ablaze after pouring kerosene on her body.
“On receiving information, the Nimapada police along with fire officials reached the spot and began an investigation.
Besides, the woman’s body was sent to Puri with the help of the district administration for cremation.
