Industry wants persons with better EQ than IQ'

In the employment index, EQ (emotional quotient) is now rated better than IQ (intelligence quotient). And all forward-looking industries, including Navratna Nalco, are looking out for wholesome personalities among the jobseekers,” said Nalco CMD Tapan Kumar Chand.

Chand as the chief guest was addressing the 57th Commemoration Day celebrations of the Prananath Autonomous College at Khordha on Thursday.

In Indian industries, 120 million skilled jobs are up for grabs in the next four to five years, he informed. For enhancing the employability, he urged students to strengthen ASK, i.e., attitude, skill and knowledge base.

“Each of these attributes, when mixed with the other, has a tremendous multiplying effect. Similarly, lack of any of these attributes brings down the employability to a great extent,” Chand said.

He further said employment generation should be the yardstick to measure the growth and success of any manufacturing company.

Among others, KIIT University founder Dr Achyuta Samanta, college governing body president Jyotirindra Nath Mitra and principal Dr Pratap Kumar Das spoke on the occasion. Former IAS officer Vivek Pattanaik was the chief speaker and Major Khirod Prasad Mohanty the guest of honour. International sand sculptor Sudarsan Pattnaik was conferred the Prananath Samman.
