VSSUT Vice-Chancellor of Dr Atal Choudhury has again suspended four more teaching staffs on disciplinary ground. Earlier, three staff were suspended, 15 staff were served show-cause notices, and one Dr Pusparaj Das was sacked from job.
But later his dismissal was converted to suspension. The four staff who were suspended are among the 15 who had been served show cause notice earlier.
“Since their reply was not satisfactory, they have been suspended,” VC Dr Choudhury informed.
These teachers are Prof D Dhupal of Civil engineering department, Prof PK Pradhan of Production engineering, Dr Santosh Majhi of Computer Science and Dr Sushmita Padhee of Computer Application department.
“The video footages of the professors taking part in an agitation were reviewed. At the same time, their replies to the show -cause notice were also carefully studied. But they were not found to be satisfactory, and hence their suspension became necessary,” said the VC further.
“During the time of admission when new students and their parents came to the campus, not only these staff did not cooperate for admission, but also showed such behaviours that tarnished the image of the university,” the VC added.
“They also didn’t cooperate for evaluation of the answer papers of the students and influenced other sincere teachers to take part in agitation. Since such behaviour and attitude is totally uncalled for in an educational institution, we got compelled to take such drastic step,” the VC informed.
Notably, some teachers, since July 17 have been on dharna pressing for a 10 -point charter of demands including removal of the VC. But the State Government and the Directorate of the Technical Education and Training (DTET) didn’t find any genuineness in the demands of the teachers and instructed the VC to take stringent action so that teaching atmosphere could be restored.
