The Kendriya Vidyalaya under the control of the Atomic Energy Education Society (AEES) has been functioning under the Indian Rare Earths colony near Chhatrapur for the last two decades.
The school is currently having around 25 faculty members and more than 700 students ranging from Standards-I to XII.As per the guidelines of Atomic Energy Education Society, the school can admit only those students primarily whose parents are working under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE).
Since the number students was less than the sanctioned intake from the DAE service holders, the school management earlier had given admission to several non-DAE students from outside keeping the interests of local children and the public perception in mind, sources revealed.
According to information, the Atomic Energy Education Society, in the meantime, has issued a notice prohibiting the admission of non-DAE students into the school giving rise to severe public discontent in the locality. Several political parties have reportedly submitted their memorandum to the District Collector demanding to admit local students into the school in the same line and consideration as the managing committee of the school used to admit non-DAE students earlier. There is a huge public outcry in the region on the new guidelines of the AEES.
When the IRE is operating in our home soil and making profit on our sweating water, how it could denyadmission to our children, questioned a parent.
Meanwhile, former Assembly Deputy Speaker and BJP Kisan Morcha national vice-president Rama Chandra Panda has appealed to the management to continue the old practice of admitting non-DAE students as IRE is a Government organization which has a commitment for periphery development.
