India would lay a petroleum product pipeline to Bangladesh. The intercontinental pipeline would supply petrol and diesel to the neighbouring country, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said here on Saturday.

India and Bangladesh discussed bilateral cooperation in the energy sector here on the day for constructing the 200-km pipeline from Numaligarh under Golaghat district of Assam in India to Parbatipur in Bangladesh, which would reduce the oil transportation cost.

Pradhan said Energy Ministers of Bangladesh, Sri lanka, Maldives and Nepal would attend the inauguration ceremony of the IOCl Paradip Refinery on Sunday.

“Our dream is to emerge as a self-reliant country and to eradicate poverty. Working together for energy security would help a lot,” said Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Energy Adviser to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

During the meeting between Pradhan and Sri lankan Deputy Minister of Petroleum Resources Development, issues such as expansion of activities of lanka IOC in Sri lanka and marketing of ATF and lPG were discussed. “We have enough confidence to work with India in partnership in the hydrocarbon sector,” said Dr Anoma Gamage, the Sri lankan Deputy Minister. Delegates from Bangladesh and Sri lanka as well as from the PNG Ministry were presented.
