Worried over the increasing number of chain snatching incidences, the Rourkela police on Wednesday held an emergency meeting at the Sector-19 police station under the chairmanship of DSP PK Rout to plan out to nab the bike-borne snatchers in the city.
Police were baffled on Tuesday evening when two bike-borne youths snatched away a gold chain from one Rita Singh of Basanti Colony from near the DAV Polytechnic.
Though the Uditnagar police passed on the message through VHF to all the police stations and checks were conducted under the leadership of SP AN Sinha at different places yet the miscreants were not caught.
Rather on next day morning at about 10 am, a youth approached a woman patient at the IGH (Ispat General Hospital) and snatched away her chain.
She soon informed the Sector-19 police but in vain. The police are only holding meetings but to no use, alleged locals.
However, in another incident the Railway Police succeeded in arresting two looters Jahangir alias Sonu (28) of the Ranchi Church Road and Javed Akhtar (23) of the Rajgangpur Safuddin Ahammmad Road while they were trying to board the Azad Hind Express on Wednesday. They confessed that they had looted a briefcase of a passenger Vinaya Burmon from the Rourkela station.
