Incomplete Jeera river bridge a major issue

In the Bargarh municipal polls, the campaign is in full swing. In the city, one of the major problems that people are facing is the Jeera river bridge, connecting the city to Ambapali.

The old bridge was made up of iron; later, it was dismantled to build a new concrete bridge. Though more than three years have elapsed the bridge has remained incomplete now, triggering resentment among residents here. Many times, the BJP and Congress have agitated demanding completion of the flyover construction. The BJP also held ‘Jal Satyagrah' over the issue.

The residents of Amapali under Bargarh municipality are facing a lot of inconveniences for the incomplete bridge. A temporary bridge constructed in the river gets flooded in normal rains. So during the rainy season, the people have to use a long 7 km route as an alternative.

There are also allegations of faults in the construction plan of the bridge.  "The anomalies are rectified and changed and the bridge will soon be built," said the Executive Engineer of PWD.

Since it is a major issue, political observers here say that it will have a bearing on the civic poll in Bargarh.
