A four-member delegation of the State Samajwadi Party (SP) on Friday submitted a memorandum to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kalpataru Das, demanding inclusion of a non-judicial member of the State lokayukta representing the Other Backward Caste (OBC).
The delegation led by SP State unit president Rabi Behera appreciated the rotation system of appointing a non-judicial member representing the SCs/STs, minorities and women in the State lokayukta. Besides, they said the lokayukta should include a member of the Other Backward Class (OBC) as the OBCs constitute a major bulk of the State population.
They also demanded that the Vigilance department be put under the ambit of the lokayukta to make it more effective to fight corruption. The Minister assured the delegation to take a positive step in this regard. Among others, SP general secretary Arun Jena, Pradeep Mohapatra and youth leader Biswajit Ray were present.
