Incessant rain from Sunday night inundated several low-lying areas in Bhubaneswar bringing misery for the residents. Commuters had a tough time in reaching their destinations as most of the roads turned into pools.
While most of places had knee-deep water, the National Highway (NH)-16 stretch in front of the Iskcon temple remained completely waterlogged. Apart from two-wheelers and four-wheelers, a bus along with passengers was spotted stranded on the road.
Jayadev Vihar wore a pathetic look as people as well as vehicles waded through knee-deep water with much difficulty. As per reports, floodwater entered houses of residents in different places including Behera Sahi in Nayapally and Gouri Garden in Samantarpur, where the situation was the worst. However, most of the residents alleged that despite repeated calls, nobody from the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) turned up for their rescue.
Meanwhile, the BMC announced a helpline number to address complaints on the situation arising due to inundation.
“People can call up the helpline number 0674-2430038 and ask for discharge of water in submerged areas,” a senior BMC official informed.
