In a bid to promote inter-caste marriages, the State Government on Thursday doubled the incentives for such marriages from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh.
The monetary assistance would be provided to men and women who opt to marry outside their castes, informed SC and ST Welfare Department Secretary Surendra Kumar.
He said the cash incentive has been hiked to encourage inter-caste marriages to eradicate the evil of untouchability. There would not be any income restriction in availing the benefit.
However, the couple has to purchase household accessories with the money and would have to execute a bond. The couple has to refund the amount within a year if their marriage ends in divorce within five years, sources said.
