Samanta elected Volleyball Fed president
Bhubaneswar: Kandhamal MP Dr Achyuta Samanta has been elected as the new president of the Volleyball Federation of India. The office-bearers and executive committee of the VFI elected Samanta as president, Raj Kumar Panjab as Executive Vice president and Anil Chaoudhury as Secretary General. As many as nine vice-presidents, two Associate Secretaries and seven joint-secretaries were elected. Sunil Kumar Tiwari of UP has been elected as treasurer, informed Returning Officer Justice (Retd) VS Siradhana.
MP Ganga Deb escapes in road mishap
Sambalpur: Sambalpur BJP MP Nitesh Ganga Deb had a narrow escape after a truck collided with his car on NH-49 near Kurada village under the Deogarh police limits on Thursday night. The mishap took place at around 10 pm when the MP was returning to his native Deogarh after attending a Vigilance monitoring meeting here. His car had a minor damage in the accident. Receiving information, police reached the spot and detained the driver of the truck.
UTP escapes from police custody at Mohana
Paralakhemuundi: An under-trial prisoner (UTP) fled from the custody at the Mohana police station in Gajapati district on Friday. The police had arrested the accused while he was smuggling ganja on Thursday night. The accused requested the police to use a toilet. When the cops allowed him for it, he pushed away a staff accompanying him and ran away. Recently, another accused had escaped from police custody at the R Udayagiri police station.
40 grams brown sugar seized in Baleswar
Baleswar: The Sahadevkhunta police in Baleswar district on Friday apprehended a drug peddler after seizing 40 grams of brown sugar from his possession following a raid. The accused was identified as Sk Safiq of Masjid Lane, Arad Bazar.
B'swar's Manisha nominated ICAR member
Baleswar: Manisha Chinmayee Behera of Soro area has been nominated as a non official member of the Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR). She has become a member for three years from October this year to the Institute Management Committee (IMC) of ICAR's Central Institute for Women in Agriculture , Bhubaneswar. By virtue of being a member of the IMC, she is also a member of the Research Advisory Committee. With the nomination to the institute, she has been felicitated at several places.
Youth club campaign in Nuapada
Nuapada: A Youth Club Development Campaign to motivate youths to form and revive youth clubs in Nuapada District has been launched by the NYK, Nuapada. "Its objective is to motivate youths to form youth clubs and revive defunct clubs and engage them in development through implementing various GOI programmes like Clean India Green India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, Covid-19 preparedness," said Ashis Thakur, NYK district coordinator. "The campaign at present is running in 13 villages of Boden block," he informed. Ajit Panda, Tapan Ranjan Dash, journalists, and advocate CR Singh Deo attended as guests in two camps at Rokal and Budhapada villages.
