Pro-Bhushan demo held in Baleswar
Baleswar: Agitators under the banner of ‘ We the people of India’ representing AITUC, National Hawkers Federation , street vendors, lawyers, Anganwadi workers etc assembled in front of the Baleswar Collectorate on Wednesday to express their solidarity with SC lawyer and activist Prasant Bhushan after he was held guilty of contempt of court. They maintained that the apex court’s observation was an attack on the fundamental rights like Freedom of Speech and Expression. Trade union leader Jayant Das , Bar association ,Baleswar secretary Manoj Nayak, Anganwadi Karmi Sangha president Prativa Pal and several others demanded a review of the case.
Man trapped under coal mound, dies
Angul: A 57-year-old man died being trapped under a coal mound at the Nandira colliery in Talcher on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Gangadhar Das of Jirala village in Dhenkanal district. Das and 11 others were working at the coalmine in morning when a big chunk of coal fell on him killing him on the spot. Another worker, Naresh Biswal, was seriously injured and hospitalised.
Girl’s body recovered from Brahmani
Jajpur: A body of a girl was recovered from river Brahmani at Rudrapur on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Sabitri (19), daughter of Jayant Pati of Kakudikuda village in the locality. Sabitri had left house on August 16 and never returned. Her family reported the matter to the Jajpur Sadar police on Wednesday.
Ganja seized; 2 held by STF in Kalahandi
Bhawanipatna: The Special Task Force (STF) of Crime Branch on Thursday busted a racket and seized ganja weighing 119 kg in Dharamgarh of Kalahandi district. Acting on reliable inputs, the STF conducted a raid and arrested two persons in this connection. The two accused were identified as Tirtharaj Sagar of Gurubazar in Dharmagarh and Chandrasen Meher of Baladiamal in Junagarh of the district. Further investigation was on to ascertain more information about the racket.
9 kg 400 gram cannabis seized in Jajpur
Jajpur: The Jajpur district Kuakhia police seized 9 kg and 400 grams of cannabis on Thursday and arrested two persons in this connection patrol at Mugupal Square on NH-20 near Kuakhia Bazaar.
