Communist leader Ahabananda passes away
Bhubaneswar: Noted Communist leader, former Cuttack CPI secretary and State executive member Ahabananda Mohanty passed away at his residence at Kandarpur on Sunday. He was 76 and ailing for many days. CPI State secretary Ashish Kanungo and national executive member Dibakar Nayak expressed deep grief over his death. Ahabananda was elected president of the Burla Engineering College Students’ Union. He was a leader of All India Students’ Federation (AISF) . He had also participated in the historic student movements in Odisha in 1964 and 1969.
17 injured as picnic bus hits truck in Khordha
Khordha: A bus carrying picnickers hit a stationary truck near the Godipada tollgate near here late on Saturday night, leaving 17 passengers injured. The bus carrying around 35 persons from Bhadrak was on its way to Taratarini in Ganjam for a picnic. The driver, who had reportedly consumed liquor, lost control over the wheels, following which the vehicle rammed into the stationary truck. The injured were admitted to the Khordha hospital and two of them were later shifted to a private nursing home in Bhubaneswar.
AMOFOI, FPI books presented
Bhubaneswar: In a bid to build up a strong commitment to human dignity and freedom, global peace and a World Government, the AMOFOI and the FPI presented some of their books to notable authorities like OSHB Chairman Bhupinder Singh and Secretary Gangadhar Patra and Prof Uma Charan Mishra, a former Judge and president of Samruddha Odisha party.
Red Cross distributes relief materials
Bhubaneswar: The Indian Red Cross Society Odisha State branch under the leadership of its secretary Major Dr Kalpana Dash distributed relief materials to the fire victims of Kulantiragram and Bhairipur villages in Khordha district. The members distributed the materials in presence of Tehsildar Prachi Mohapatra and Additional Tehsildar Snehalata Acharya. Among others, Red Cross life members Laxman Swain, Arun Das, Jayanta Jena, Indira Priyadarshini and Chitrabngada Das were present.
