At least 20 labourers were injured after an under-construction bridge collapsed near Kanjipani under the K Balanga police station in Sundargarh district on Sunday. Among the injured labourers, five are stated to be in critical condition.
According to sources, a portion of the 50-metre-long and 20-feet-high under-construction bridge caved in where as many as 40 workers were engaged in the construction work.
On getting information, the police reached the spot and rushed the injured persons to the Bonai Sub-Division Hospital.
Later five critically injured labourers were referred to a hospital in Rourkela.
It might be mentioned here that the bridge was being constructed by the National Buildings Construction Company (NBCC) on the road connecting Jamudihi to Kunjapani.
