Health Minister and Jharsuguda MLA Naba Kisore Das on Thursday unveiled a statue of martyr Umakant Naik, who died recently in a Maoist ambush in Koraput district. A guard of honour was given to martyr Umakanta before unveiling the statue. Late Naik was a native of Ramachhipadihi village in Laikera block in the district.
District Collector Saroj Kumar Samal, SP Bikash Chandra Dash, Zilla Parishad President Laxminarayan Patel, Block Chairperson Rosalin Patel and Kirmira Block Chairman Debraj Sahoo were present on the occasion. Parents of martyr Prafulla Kumar Naik and Snehalata were honoured with mementos and certificates. The statue was constructed under DMF funds.
