Jajpur BJD protests Centre’s neglect
Jajpur: The BJD on Monday began a two-day dharna at the block and panchyat levels in Jajpur district demanding Special Category State status for Odisha. Panchyati Raj Minister Kalpataru Das along with hundreds of party workers staged dharna before the Dharmasala block office and slammed the Union Government for its “step-motherly attitude” to Odisha. Among other BJD leaders, Jaladhar Mohanty, Niranjan Bal, Pranab Balabantaray, Sribatsa Jena, student leader Sabyasachi Ray, advocate Santosh Tarei and Khitish Nayak were present.
BJD holds ant-Centre dharna at Ali
Ali: Ali block BJD members staged a dharna in front of the Panchayat Samiti office under the leadership of the party’s block president Narayan Chandra Dhal on Tuesday. People from 32 GPs participated in the dharna. Food and Civil Supplies Minister Pratap Keshari Deb’s representative Bhisma Narayan Mohanty, Bhaskar Chandra Samal, block vice-chairman Kedar Nath Samal, Dibakar Nayak, Dasarath Mallick, Himansu Bhusan Panda and youth larder Manoranjan Samal said the UPA Government is neglecting Odisha in the matter of the State’s development. They demanded earliest declaration of Odisha as a Special Category State.
Two boys drown in pond in Jajpur
Jajpur: Two 11-year-old boys met their watery grave on Monday afternoon while washing their feet in a pond at village Sabari under the Jajpur Road police station. They were Sumanajit Nayak (11) of Dhabalagiri and Abari Das (11) of Jajpur Road. They were reading in Class VI in Dhabalagiri School. Their bodies were fished out by villagers.
Athagarh college golden jubilee in Jan
Athagarh: Gopabandhu Science College here turned 50 years’ old. On the occasion, a small function was organised where MlA Ranendra Pratap Swain, Sub-Collector Trilochan Pradhan, DFO Arun Mishra, educationists Malay Mohanty and Hemanta Tripathy joined as guests.
A core committee was formed to monitor the Golden Jubilee function in
January next. It was decide to invite either the Chief Minister or the Governor as the chief guest to the function. A plantation drive was undertaken in the college campus.
New IIC joins Dharmasala PS
Jajpur: Sudarsan Dash on Monday joined as the new IIC of the Dharmasala police station. Earlier, he was the IIC of the Baselisahi police station in Puri district. He said he would give priority to crime control.
