The Town police arrested a fake lPG agent who duped a number of residents by giving them fake gas connections in exchange of money masquerading as an agency man of an lPG company.
According to the police, Bikas Pati of Jajpur allegedly impressed upon some people that he was the authorised agent of Bharat Gas, and after taking money from them handed them empty gas cylinders and stoves but evaded filling of their cylinders.
loknath Padhi of Baseli Sahi, one of the victims of the fraud, lodged a complaint with the police that Pati posing as a distributor of the Bharat Gas sold him an empty cylinder and a stove. Despite repeated requests, he was not giving relevant papers. When Padhi contacted the original agency, he could know that he was cheated.
The police registered a case under cheating and arrested Pati from his rented house and recovered a number of gas cylinders. Investigation revealed that Pati had sold fake gas connections to many people. Civil Supplies officials and the police recovered about a dozen cylinders. Pati was forwarded to the Court of Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate on Saturday and remanded to jail after his bail plea was rejected.
