Impasse in Assembly: Cong meets Guv

Published on:
Alleging the State Government’s autocratic attitude inside the Assembly, a Congress delegation led by leader of Opposition (loP) Narasingha Mishra on Friday called on Governor SC Jamir and apprised him of the developments in the House.
After coming out of the Raj Bhawan, Mishra said they informed the Governor about the developments in the Assembly on Thursday. The Congress leaders alleged that the Government didn’t listen to them in any issue discussed in the House.
“When the Odisha land Grabbing (Prohibition) Bill-2015 was being discussed, the Bill was amended unanimously after long discussions. The necessary amendments to the clauses of the Bill to protect the interests of the landless and poor were done, but, later, the Minister brought a motion in the House to withdraw the amendment and a copy of the motion was also not given to anyone. And, the Speaker supported the Government,” Narasingha Mishra lamented.
Earlier in the morning, the Congress legislature Party held a meeting. After the meeting Mishra said that the House runs at the whims of the Chief Minister and not as per the rules.
Notably, the Congress MlAs on Thursday drew the attention of the Speaker demanding an explanation on some of the clauses of the Bill. However, it was not accepted and the Bill was passed without discussion.
