The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha (RSS) on Friday demanded that the Government should strictly adopt a policy to impart primary education in Indian languages as many languages and dialects of the country have been eliminated due to use of foreign languages.
RSS Odisha East Pranta Sangha Chalak (State president) Samir Kumar Mohanty said a resolution in this regard has been passed at the RSS’s Akhila Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS) held at Nagpur recently. Suresh (Bhayaji) Joshi was elected as RSS national secretary for three years again. A total of 1,500 representatives, including 45 from Odisha, had joined the meeting, he said.
The ABPS viewed that Governments, other policy makers, including voluntary organisations, should make efforts to protect and promote various languages and dialects of the country. For this, primary education across the country should only be in mother tongue or any other Bharatiya language.
Teaching, study material and option of appearing in the examinations in higher education in all faculties, including the technical and medical should be available in Bharatiya languages too, the APS resolution said.
Along with NEET and UPSC examinations, all other entrance and competitive examinations should be conducted in Bharatiya languages. Preference should be given to Bharatiya languages in all governmental and judicial works.
“There were 6,500 languages spoken across the world. But 2,500 of them are not spoken now. Out of 1657 Indian languages, 197 have been obsolete. Out of 78 languages spoken in Odisha, about 40 (50 per cent) are on the verge of being outdated,” lamented Mohanty. Among others, Puri Sanghachalak Baikunthanath Sahoo and Vishwa Sambad Kendra member Prakash Chandra Prusthi were present.
