IMFA on-duty mine worker injured

After its prolonged labour unrest in its manufacturing plant at Rayagada and chromite mine in Sukinda, the Indian Metals and Ferro Alloys Limited (IMFA) is again in news for a wrong reason.

On Sunday morning, a worker of the company’s Mahagiri Mines was seriously injured while carrying out housekeeping activities at the surface. In course of cleaning certain equipment, a mechanical part fell on the worker’s leg resulting in a fracture to the leg.

The worker, yet to be officially identified, was shifted to a hospital.

Commenting on the incident, IMFA Mines Business Unit head Sanjeev Das tried to downplay the seriousness of the incident saying that the worker’s injury was not “life threatening”.

At the same time, he stated, “We will conduct an inquiry (into the incident) and take necessary steps.”
