Indian Media Centre (IMC) State unit general secretary Rabi Rath strongly condemned the alleged sexual harassment made by Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal to his woman colleague . Describing the alleged incident as condemnable and serious, Rath said that the allegation should be impartially probed in order to restore trust of the public on media. Keeping the seriousness of the allegation in mind, neither any corporate house nor the editorial body of any mass media should determine the quantum and nature of punishment for themselves, Rath pointed out. Keeping the historic Visakha judgment and guidelines of the Supreme Court in mind, the managing board of the Tehelka media centre should have immediately ordered for an impartial probe into the incident to unmask the truth, he opined. However, he lamented that the Tehlka management conducted an enquiry in-house and reportedly tried to quell such serious allegations which is not acceptable and unwarranted. The IMC has decided to conduct a seminar inviting public debate at all India level to unfold the truth of the incident and to sensitize the media personnel and the public in the matter, he pointed out.
