The Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) and the Regional Medical Research Centre, Bhubaneswar have been promoting integrated farming in Nabarangpur district under the RKVY and the Department of Biotechnology (DBT)-sponsored aspirational district projects.
The institutions have taken six villages covering about 700 households in Nabarangpur and Papadahandi blocks.
On Tuesday, Nabarangpur Project Director DRDA Ramakant Nayak and DFO Marandi supervised distribution of advanced fish fingerlings to 75 farmers with small ponds created under the Mo Pokhari scheme.
The choice of fish is amur carp, a bottom dwelling common carp that is a proven variety to grow quickly in small ponds.
