A day after hundreds of locals commuters ghearoed on-duty police personnel at Raj Mahal Square alleging favouritism to Government officials and VIPs, Bhubaneswar Central MLA Ananta Narayan Jena was fined Rs 500 for violating traffic rules in the city on Sunday.
Jena’s vehicle was parked at a no-parking zone near AG Square here, for which the Commissionerate police issued a challan of Rs 500 against him.
Some commuters reported the instance of the illegal parking to the DCP, after which the MLA was fined, reports said.
“The fine was imposed as my driver had parked the vehicle illegally on the road. Law is equal for everyone; and we should abide by the traffic norms,” said Jena.
Interestingly, Jena had gone to AG Square to be a part of the sensitisation drive conducted by the police over traffic rules.
Traffic DCP Sagarika Nath said everybody is equal in the eyes of law. Anybody who flouts the rules would be penalised, she added.
