Illegal mining: not a pie collected yet

Published on:

The State Government has not collected a single pie from mining companies involved in illegal activities even as four months have passed since the Supreme Court issued an order in this regard on August 2.

This was revealed from the information submitted by Steel and Mines Minister Prafulla Kumar Mallick in the State Assembly in response to a question of Congress MlA Tara Prasad Bahinipati on Friday.

The Minister informed that the apex court has directed the State Government to collect a total of Rs 17,576.16 crore as compensation from mining companies who had undertaken illegal mining activities in the State.

While the leaseholders have been asked to pay compensation by December 31, 2017, not a single pie has been collected from them by now. The Government would take further step only after the due date, the Minister said.
