Police here arrested two persons in connection with running illegal lottery and registered a case against them. They were identified as Shyaml Sardar and Pankaj Sarkar of UV-12 Khanda. The district police had tightened the noose on the lottery operators at the behest of the district SP.
Sources said Shyam Sundar Kabiraj, Sanjeeb Mandal and Subash Sarkar are the main masterminds of the illegal lottery operations in Nabarangpur district.
The lottery operations involved tax evasion and other frauds worth Rs 1 crore, which had been going on for the last two years in the district.
The business also percolated into the rural areas as a well-organised racket had been involved in the circulation of illegal lotteries.
