A team of officials of the Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) on Tuesday sealed a diabetes clinic at Jayadev Vihar here.
Acting on a tipoff, a team led by DMET Joint Secretary Dr UK Satpathy raided the clinic and seized several incriminating documents.
“We had information that the owner of the clinic, having no knowledge about the disease, was treating the patients illegally. He was running the clinic violating the existing law. Hence, we are forced to raid the clinic and sealed it,” said Dr Satpathy.
The team, after its preliminary investigation, sealed the clinic.
However, the hospital owner managed to flee at the time of the raid.
Though the officials asked for requisite documents from the doctor and staff present there, they were not able to produce the papers. A doctor said he had no idea about the owner’s experience and qualification.
“I did not know in detail about the owner of the clinic. I didn’t inquire about it before joining here because he has another clinic in Cuttack,” said the doctor, adding that the clinic in Cuttack was established last year.
The clinic here was established earlier this year. Efforts are on to trace out the owner of the clinic.
