Defying the strict instruction of the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB), around 130 brick kiln units are running illegally at the riverbank of Brahmani under Bhuban tehsil and RI Circle in the district.
Many brick kilns are also smuggling coals from the illegal coal depots running near Rangila Dhaba, Telephone Exchange, College Road and at Baunsakana village.
The units are even collecting sand illegally from the river bank. The Tehsildar, who is in charge of Sub-Registrar and Sub-Treasury Officer, is remaining silent over the issue.
Significantly, an audit recovery notice has been clamped against the present Bhuban Tehsildar for showing irregular account when he was BDO at Nimapada till 2014.
