IIT sexual slur: Woman lodges case with police

The West Bengal PhD student, who had levelled sexual harassment allegations against an IIT Bhubaneswar Professor, lodged a complaint against the teacher and some other officials of the institute at the Mahila police station here on Friday.

The woman filed the FIR against Professor PD Reddy for allegedly sexually harassing her and against some officials of the institute for conniving with him.

Police said all the parties would be summoned to ascertain the truth.

The woman has alleged that she has been a victim of sexual harassment soon after her marriage in November 2012. Besides, her husband was also mentally harassed by the Professor as he protested against it. Following it, her husband suffered a brain haemorrhage and was in coma for 10 days.

She has also alleged that even after approaching all top IIT officials, no one helped her as the Professor enjoys tremendous clout in the institution.

Earlier, IIT Bhubaneswar officials had termed the allegations levelled by the student as ‘baseless’. In a Press release, the authorities had claimed that the woman was admitted to the IIT Bhubaneswar in July 2011 but levelled the allegation of sexual harassment on October 6, 2016.

“The matter was then referred to the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC). However, she was not satisfied with the report of the committee and has now raised her voice once again for justice,” the release had stated.
