Students of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhubaneswar took up a massive cleanliness drive the “Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan” on the behest of a proposal put forward by Director Prof RV Rajakumar at the Jatni playground and in and around the Argul Jatni road.
The NSS students removed plastics at the Jatni ground, which has been heavily littered and strewn, posing a major health concern for the nearby residents including the commuters and cleaned it.
Rajakumar said participating in a cleanup drive would sensitise and build environmental stewardship and teach students the importance of keeping our surroundings clean, reducing, recycling of plastics and an environment friendly lifestyle, taking it as a responsibility.
This would be inspiring and motivating to the inhabitants of the area and it would set a positive example to students of sister institutions, he added.
