IIM demand: Rourkela bandh on Nov 22

The Sachetan Nagarika Manch (SNM), which has been demanding establishment of the proposed IIM, Odisha at Rourkela since day one, on Wednesday decided to observe a 12-hour Rourkela Bandh on November 22.

“Advised by Union Minister Jual Oram and local MlA Dillip Ray, we held an all-party meeting on today. Representatives of various political parties, trade unions, student organisations and cultural bodies participated in the meeting and unanimously decided to hold Rourkela Bandh on November 22,” informed SNM general secretary PP Ray.

Denizens here are hopeful that they would get the proposed IIM at Rourkela as the city fulfills all criteria expecting ‘one-hour air connectivity’ of the Central Government.

The State Government has apparently decided to set up the premier institute somewhere between Cuttack and Bhubaneswar on this condition. It may be mentioned that the SNM has been demanding setting up of the national institute from the day Union Finance Minister Arun Jately announced IIMs for six States, including Odisha, during the Budget Session of the Parliament in July this year.
